Chapter 431: Leah Thorne Comes to Visit
Chapter 431: Leah Thorne Comes to Visit
Harrison Langdon scratched his head, grinning mischievously, "It’s just been so long since I’ve seen you, little junior sister, I missed you!"Tanya Sinclair found it amusing; she naturally understood that her mentor and several senior brothers cared about her.
"Second senior brother, I..." Tanya Sinclair was about to speak when someone knocked on the door outside.
When she looked up, she recognized the person as the secretary next to Professor Carter.
"Team Leader Sinclair, Professor Carter would like you to come over now."
Tanya Sinclair pressed her lips slightly, already aware, "Okay, I’ll head over now."
Tanya Sinclair made her way to Professor Carter’s office, and before entering, she took a deep breath and then raised her hand to knock on the door.
"Come in," came Professor Carter’s voice from inside.
Tanya Sinclair pushed the door open and walked in, "Professor Carter."
Professor Carter raised his hand to remove his reading glasses; he stood up from behind his desk piled with files, looking more serious than usual.
He gestured for Tanya Sinclair to sit on the sofa.
Tanya Sinclair thoughtfully made tea for Professor Carter and placed it in front of him.
Professor Carter sighed and got straight to the point, "Tanya, I saw your resignation letter. You’ve done a good job with the handover; Celine has reported to me as well, saying the newcomers you trained are quickly becoming proficient. It seems you’ve long had thoughts of leaving..."
He paused, gazing at Tanya Sinclair’s increasingly thin face, his tone softening, "Tanya, I’m not talking to you as a supervisor but as an elder. Have you really thought it through? If there’s any difficulty in the work here at the base..."
"Professor Carter, I’m very happy with the work here at the base," Tanya Sinclair gently interrupted him, earnest and grateful, "Thank you for taking care of me during this time. But I have reasons to leave."
Professor Carter was silent for a long time upon hearing this, finally sighing helplessly, "I know you’ve made up your mind, I can’t keep you."
Tanya Sinclair, "Professor..."
Professor Carter waved his hand.
"You single-handedly brought up Group A of The Veridia Project; you tackled the core challenges, and you assembled the team," he sighed, "Your departure will make things difficult for everyone to adjust, but that’s not the main issue."
Professor Carter looked at Tanya Sinclair, eyes filled with a mix of elder affection and heartache.
"The main concern is that I’m afraid you’ll become more withdrawn and harder on yourself after leaving the familiar environment. Tanya, you have to look forward... I’ve lived to this age, and many people around me have gone. I’ve experienced pain and despair, but you cannot isolate yourself."
Tanya Sinclair displayed a comforting smile.
"Professor Carter, don’t worry. I just want a change of environment, to spend some time in a quiet place. I’m not a native of Aris; I moved here from the south with my grandfather. I want to go south; I’ve already found a small town, lovely and scenic, suitable for nurturing health. They need teachers there, and I can teach the children. I promised Caden and Joy to take better care of myself."
"Alright, since you have plans, I won’t try to persuade you," Professor Carter patted her shoulder, "I’ll keep your position open; the door to the institute will always be open for you. Whenever you feel rested and want to come back, there’s no need to file a report; just come directly."
Tanya Sinclair felt a lump in her throat, lowered her head, not wanting him to see her reddening eyes.
"Thank you, Professor Carter," she said as she stood up, "I’ll continue with the work handover now."
"Go ahead."
Tanya Sinclair turned to leave, reaching the door. Behind her came Professor Carter’s voice.
"Tanya."
Tanya Sinclair paused slightly.
Professor Carter said softly, "In one’s life, meeting someone worth loving with all your heart is a blessing, not a burden. If you can carry on his share to live, you’re already braver than most."
Tanya Sinclair stood still, took a deep breath, pulled the door open, and walked out.
During lunch, Tanya Sinclair shared her decision to resign with her two senior brothers and senior sister.
The three exchanged looks, not surprised, only heart-hearted.
Tanya Sinclair understood, "Have you already heard from Professor Carter?"
Second senior brother Harrison Langdon immediately pointed at the eldest brother, "It’s the eldest brother’s informant."
Third senior sister Celine elbowed him.
"Tanya, make sure to take good care of yourself there, and send us messages often," Celine said earnestly, "When we have free time, the three of us will team up to visit you!"
Tanya Sinclair chuckled, "Alright."
After getting off work in the afternoon, Tanya Sinclair didn’t leave through the main entrance, but exited through the side door.
Back when Declan Pierce came to pick her up from work, to avoid too much attention, she’d have him wait here. She never knew how early he’d arrive, but whenever she came out, he’d always be standing in front of the car, greeting her with tender eyes.
Even if they did nothing, said nothing, just held hands and strolled slowly along the sycamore-leaf-covered long road, they wouldn’t be bored.
When the magnetic fields align, when you’re beside the one you love, the flow of time is gentle.
Tanya Sinclair took a deep breath.
As she moved forward again, suddenly, a somewhat unfamiliar but familiar voice called out behind her.
"Miss Tanya Sinclair."
Tanya Sinclair turned her head, taking three seconds to register the woman standing before her.
For a split second, she seemed to see her university self.
So alike.
It was like looking in the mirror face to face.
Even the voice sounded so similar to hers.
Tanya Sinclair stared at the approaching woman for a few seconds, called out her name, "Leah Thorne?"
After that dinner with Felix Kendall and Vincent Hawthorne, Tanya Sinclair returned home and soon received the information sent by Felix Kendall.
Information about a woman named Leah Thorne.
She was a bit puzzled, but upon clicking, she saw that face so much like her own and the same university she attended; she understood most of it.
Felix Kendall: [She showed up at the restaurant today, probably looking for Vincent Hawthorne.]
With that, Tanya Sinclair completely understood the relationship between Leah Thorne and Vincent Hawthorne.
She understood, but she didn’t care.
Even if Leah Thorne was standing alive before her now, Tanya Sinclair remained calm and indifferent.
"Is there something you need, Miss Thorne?"
Leah Thorne smiled, "Finally meeting you in person, I’ve heard so much about you. Miss Sinclair, if convenient, may I invite you for a meal?"
