Chapter 59 Duel Pit
Chapter 59 Duel Pit
The medical bay of the World Eater Legion's flagship, the Conqueror.
The air was thick with the pungent smell of disinfectant and the heavy stench of blood. A life support device dripped and operated nearby. Kayan and seven Thousand Warriors from the World Devourer Training Institute stood quietly in the corner.
"Chief, thank you for coming to see me, but it seems I'm unlikely to make it."
A young warrior of the Thousand Sons lay on the medical bed, stretched out his only intact left hand, and tightly grasped Li Wei's wrist, weakly saying.
"Leo, don't say such discouraging things. You will definitely survive."
Levi placed his hands on Leo's hands, his tone calm, but his eyes betrayed intense grief and anger.
The Thousand Sons warrior in front of him was only half a body left, with a small part of his head missing. His wounds were bloody and mangled, and he had completely lost his qualification to enter the Dreadnought Mech.
Moreover, Leo's life force is still fading. He has survived until now entirely thanks to the all-out rescue efforts of two Bright Feather School biologists from the World Devourer think tank trained by Thousand Sons.
Biologists of the Thousand Sons Bright Feather School do have unique methods for treating the injuries of Astartes gene warriors, but they are not omnipotent.
It was already a miracle that he was able to hold on until Li Wei came to see him one last time.
"My lord, I wish to be buried in the wilderness of Prospero. The scenery there is so beautiful, so very beautiful..."
Leo murmured softly, then his head tilted limply to one side, and he breathed his last.
"Leo, I regret sending you to the World Eater. I never imagined that someone as calm and gentle as you could be accidentally killed by Angron."
Li Wei's face was ashen, his eyes were icy cold, and past scenes flashed through his mind.
He remembered when Leo first came to him to learn the skills of the think tank, he was just a new recruit of the Thousand Sons. He was also one of the first think tank students personally trained by Levi, and his temperament and psychic talent were top-notch.
Li Wei had high hopes for him, expecting him to be able to stand on his own and become the face of Qianzi Think Tank, but unexpectedly he died here.
After a long while, Li Wei, with a cold expression, picked up the Emperor God statue that was placed aside and was radiating a faint golden light. He sighed helplessly. This was one of his achievements in the past six months.
A Valhalla that could accommodate human souls, but unfortunately it was never fully formed and could not actually receive human souls.
Li Wei also consulted Luo Jia about the idea of this Hall of Heroes. Luo Jia said that the idea was feasible, but difficult to realize.
Moreover, the foundation upon which Li Wei built Valhalla originated from the Emperor's faith, a power far beyond the reach of ordinary people. It could only truly take shape if the Emperor himself personally oversaw its construction.
In the instant of Leo's death, Levi could only watch helplessly as his frail soul drifted into the warp and was instantly torn apart and dissipated by the warp's turbulence.
"Angron must pay a bloody price, even if he lost his mind due to the influence of the Butcher's Nail and accidentally injured my student."
In fact, Leo's death was an accident, and Levi has already found out.
As the World Eater Primarch Angron examined the training results of the think tank, he suddenly lost control due to the excruciating pain from the Butcher's Nail on his skull, and swung his axe at everyone around him.
The World Eaters suffered the most casualties in that out-of-control incident, with more than ten World Eater warriors and several members of the newly formed World Eater think tank dying.
Leo was merely using his psionic powers to try and calm Angron's chaotic mind when he was cleaved in two by the completely crazed Angron with an axe.
"Let's go, Kayan and the rest of the Thousand Sons, let's go see the style of the World Eater Primarch Angron."
Taking a deep breath, Li Wei suppressed all his grief and turned to Kayan, who was standing in the corner, and said in a deep voice.
"Yes, sir." Kayan, with a solemn expression, and the seven members of the Thousand Sons Think Tank behind him responded in unison.
As soon as Li Wei stepped out of the medical pod, he heard the deafening roars of the World Eater warriors and the booming of their chainsaw axes.
Along the way, the walls and metal floors of the deck corridors were covered with meaningless graffiti and dried, blackened bloodstains.
Li Wei and his eight Thousand Sons, amidst the disdainful glances and undisguised laughter of the World Eater warriors scattered in twos and threes, finally arrived at the World Eater's most infamous duel pit.
At this moment, in the duel pit, a World Eater warrior, completely unarmored, was fighting bare-handed against another World Eater warrior wielding a chainsaw axe and wearing blue and white power armor.
At the highest point of the Duel Pit, on a stone throne stained with dried blood, the Primarch of the World Eater, Angron, with his massive, mountain-like body, casually watched the battle raging within.
As Li Wei stepped into the entrance of the dueling pit, the unarmed warrior's eyes flashed with a fierce light. He quickened his attack, dodged the slash with a sudden sidestep, snatched the chainsaw axe, and decapitated his opponent with a single blow.
Then, amidst the cheers of the crowd, the warrior raised his head and surveyed the entire arena. He then wiped the blood from his face and, addressing Angron on the throne, said in a gruff voice:
"Primarch, I, Cain, have already killed that fool who severed all ties with me. That brat dared to challenge me as soon as he became a World Eater warrior. So what if he was fully armed!"
Then, Kahn, covered in blood, grinned and said:
"Sir, shall we go down and fight a match ourselves?"
Angron, who had been nonchalant, did not respond. His gaze suddenly fell on Li Wei in the distance, noticing that Li Wei was staring at him with a furious look in his eyes.
Angron ripped off the tattered robe covering him, leaving only a white loincloth, pushed aside the obstructing Kahn, and walked straight into the dueling pit, now filled with blood and bits of flesh. He glared menacingly at Levi:
"Come here, Li Wei, chief think tank member of Qianzi, are you here to avenge your subordinates?"
"Come down if you dare, otherwise you'll go back to where you came from!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he raised his head and let out a deafening roar, which immediately caused all the World Devourer warriors watching to roar along with him, the sound waves almost lifting the dome of the duel pit.
"I wouldn't dare." Li Wei performed the standard Eagle Salute. "How could I refuse the Primarch's invitation? However, Primarch, would you like to engage in a battle of First Blood, Second Blood, Third Blood, or Last Blood?"
"Hmm?" Angron, who had been looking impatient, suddenly became interested. The rules of their internal duels among the Devourers had actually been learned by the Thousand Sons Scholar, who was known for his gentle and frail nature.
He felt an immense sense of honor; it seemed that the savage dueling tradition of the Devourers still had its admirers.
He burst into laughter and said in a gruff voice:
"Let's go for first blood. I've already killed a young Thousand Sons warrior. If I kill another Thousand Sons chief strategist, I don't want to hurt the cowardly and weak Magnus brothers."
Li Wei stared at Angron's arrogant expression, his body reeking of blood, in the duel pit, and his disgust for the World Eater deepened.
He really looked down on "First Blood". After all, he was the chief think tank of the Thousand Sons. Did he think he could lose his fighting ability after only one bloody attack from Angron?
