Chapter 27 Pets—King of the Ocean and Water
Chapter 27 Pets—King of the Ocean and Water
Even Frost was speechless. As hybrids, they all knew the terror of Odin—that mysterious being lurking in the shadows of history, hunting down high-purity hybrids for millennia. If Jovini was truly targeted by Odin, then Lu Lincheng's choice, though insane, might be the only option.
"So Lu Mingfei didn't react to the Word of Power 'Emperor' not because he's a descendant of the White King, but because his bloodline has exceeded the testing range of 'Emperor'?" Lisa Laurent asked.
"Yes," Lu Lincheng nodded. "It's like trying to measure the surface temperature of the sun with a thermometer—the thermometer would vaporize because it can't withstand that level of heat. The same principle applies to the Word of Power 'Emperor' being ineffective against Mingfei."
"What about the 3E exam?" Angers asked. "Will he pass it?"
Lu Lincheng smiled. It was a father's proud smile, yet tinged with endless sorrow:
"He'll pass. And he'll draw something that will shock all of you."
He paused, then added, "Because when he hears those dragon runes, he won't see fragmented, piecemeal dragon memories like other hybrids. He'll see... the complete epic."
The meeting room fell silent once again.
Everyone was processing this information: Lu Mingfei's special bloodline, Qiao Weini's sacrifice, Odin's pursuit, and the upcoming 3E exam that could upend everything.
"Even so," Frost finally spoke, his tone softening somewhat but still firm, "Lu Mingfei remains a danger. High-purity bloodlines mean immense power, but also inherent risks of instability. We need to wait until he's brought to the academy for close monitoring and evaluation."
"Monitoring? Assessment?" Lu Lincheng's voice suddenly turned icy. "What do you intend to do to my son? Lock him in a lab? Perform biopsies on him? Or test his verbal abilities and limits like a lab rat?"
"This is a necessary procedure!" Frost said, "for the safety of the college, and for his own safety!"
"Safety?" Lu Lincheng laughed, his laughter full of sarcasm. "If you really cared about his safety, you wouldn't have let him grow up alone in that small Chinese town, wouldn't have let him know nothing about the Dragon Clan, wouldn't have let him still think he's just an ordinary person!"
His voice suddenly rose, almost a roar:
"Do you know how I felt watching him cry on the screen? Do you know how I felt watching him curled up alone in the stairwell, watching him heartbroken because Nuonuo had a boyfriend, watching him being talked about by everyone, watching everyone betting on him losing—do you know how I felt?!"
The image on the holographic screen began to shake, clearly indicating that Lu Lincheng had lost control of his emotions.
"I'm a failed father! I admit it! I failed to protect my wife, I failed to be there for my son, I owe them so much!" Tears welled in his eyes, but those tearful eyes burned with a raging fire of anger. "But now, I want to make amends! I want to protect my son! I don't want to see him suffer any more injustice!"
He suddenly pulled something out from behind him and held it up to the camera.
It was a cylindrical glass container filled with a pale blue liquid. Inside the liquid, a palm-sized fragment of bone, gleaming with a ghostly blue light, was slowly rotating, emanating a chilling pressure.
Even through a screen, even just through images, everyone in the conference room could feel it—it was the Dragon King's oppressive aura, the manifestation of his authority, a power powerful enough to unleash tsunamis and submerge continents.
"The urn containing the bones of Leviathan, the king of the ocean and water," Lu Lincheng said, each word deliberate and chillingly calm. "This is a gift for my son. His new pet."
"You're insane!" Frost was the first to stand up, his face deathly pale. "Lu Lincheng! You're a member of the Secret Society too! Do you know what a bone flask means? It's taboo! It's a disaster!"
"What does that mean?" Lu Lincheng tilted his head and laughed like a true madman. "It means that if anyone dares to lay a finger on my son, I will release Leviathan. It means that if this world doesn't protect my wife and children, I will destroy this world."
He looked at everyone outside the screen, his eyes devoid of reason, filled only with a frantic desire to protect and destroy:
"I am now just a father! A father the whole world says has gone mad! If anyone lays a finger on my son, I will choose my final moment of sanity—to destroy the whole world!"
"All I want is for my wife and children to be safe."
That's all.
The video feed was cut off.
The meeting room was deathly silent.
Everyone stared blankly at the black screen, at Lu Lincheng's last crazed face, and at the bone vial slowly rotating in the pale blue liquid.
After a long while, Angers slowly sat down and rubbed his temples.
"The meeting is adjourned," he said, his voice filled with exhaustion. "We'll continue once the 3E exam results are out."
No one objected.
Everyone needs time to process what happened tonight.
Lu Lincheng's mad declaration, Leviathan's bone flask, Lu Mingfei's special bloodline, and the 3E exam that will decide everything.
A storm is really coming.
