After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 320: Natural Hostility

Chapter 320: Natural Hostility

"They’re their food," Nina Jacobs said.

If we’d fallen for their trap, we probably would’ve been dragged into this sand pit too.

"It seems they’ve found us."

Marcus Miller saw several motionless beetles twist their bodies to face their direction.

The mutant beetles had numerous, powerful legs. One of them, a nine-legged specimen, was already charging toward them!

"Perfect."

As Nina Jacobs spoke, the sand pit was instantly enclosed by walls of sand and gravel under her Control.

There were over thirty mutant beetles. Killing them would complete half her mission right then and there.

BANG!

The nine-legged beetle crashed into the wall.

Its sharp antennae tore a gash in the wall, but it instantly repaired itself.

The mutant beetles in the sand pit had all entered a combat state.

Streaks of Thunder Element Superpower coiled along the edge of the pit.

Any beetle that touched the wall was immediately zapped by the Thunder Element Superpower.

"If they can’t get out, then let’s just wipe them all out."

As Adrian Shaw spoke, his Thunder Element Superpower formed a blue blade that shot toward one of the beetles with a ZAP!

At that moment, the largest mutant beetle in the center seemed to be enraged, and it actually spread its carapaced wings and took flight!

A volley of Gold Spikes shot down at the group from midair.

"A Gold Element Superpower, too?"

Leo Hale quickly formed a Metal Shield, blocking the attack from above for the group.

The giant mutant beetle was not a flying species and clearly couldn’t stay airborne for long. After landing, it charged at them again!

Several Stone Spikes erupted from the ground, just in time to block its advance.

BANG!

Wayne Warner blocked the mutant beetle with his bare hands. Seizing the opportunity, a Diamond Sand Spike appeared in midair and pierced firmly into the gap between the beetle’s two shells.

The mutant beetle let out a sharp, piercing shriek.

Nina Jacobs didn’t give it time to struggle. Flames suddenly erupted from the Diamond Sand Spike and, with a WHOOSH, enveloped it!

Mission progress: +1.

After dealing with the largest one, Nina Jacobs and the others proceeded to kill the remaining mutant beetles in the sand pit.

"This beetle shell can’t even be burned through. It’s really good stuff."

Shirley Lucas started gathering them up again.

"You’re like a scrap collector now. You’ll pick up anything."

Adrian Shaw noticed Shirley Lucas was even collecting the Gold Spikes the mutant beetles had spat out, storing them in her space.

She also took the backpacks and belongings of some victims in the sand pit.

Just as Shirley Lucas reached for something on one of the bodies, she found herself staring into a pair of wide-open eyes.

Hearing Shirley Lucas’s scream, the group immediately grew vigilant.

"Don’t move, or I’ll kill her!"

The woman on the ground held a sharp piece of beetle antenna, her other arm wrapped tightly around Shirley Lucas’s neck.

Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected this person to still be alive.

’I couldn’t even hear her breathing a moment ago.’

"You’re a Bishop Clan Member?"

Nina Jacobs looked at the woman’s clothing and already had a strong suspicion.

"I don’t care what you’re here for! I’m not going with you!"

The woman seemed to have been injured; her face and arms were covered in bruises.

"Don’t get agitated. I just wanted to see if you had anything useful on you."

Shirley Lucas’s explanation only made her sound even less like a good person.

"We’re friends with Trevor."

After Nina Jacobs said this, she noticed the woman’s expression was indeed one of shock and confusion.

"That’s right. We’re from City D Base. We’re here to bring back the survivors of your Bishop Clan."

Adrian Shaw also explained, but the woman didn’t believe them.

"Stop lying to me! You outsiders are all up to no good. I can see you have ulterior motives!"

"Are you Nathan Moreau?" Nina Jacobs asked.

The woman snapped her head toward Nina Jacobs. "Who are you people?"

’So it really is her.’

Stellan Gallagher and Nathan Moreau. She had heard Lucasta Moreau mention them.

Naji had mentioned them before, too.

"Your people are looking for you. Toya is also worried about your safety," Adrian Shaw explained.

"Is Stellan Gallagher... is he still alive?"

After Nina Jacobs asked this, the woman suddenly burst into loud sobs.

Holden Shaw, who was standing to the side, seized the opportunity to snatch the sharp weapon from her hand and rescue Shirley Lucas.

"Stellan Gallagher... Stellan Gallagher is dead... He was beaten to death by those people to help me escape!"

Nathan Moreau cried out in anguish.

"Do you remember their names?" Nina asked.

’Nathan Moreau appeared here, so it’s probably not Alistair White’s group.’

"Eryx Rhodes, Anselm Vance... and, there was a woman named Magnus York."

Nathan Moreau’s words surprised Nina Jacobs.

’Magnus York is a woman?’

’Looks like I jumped to conclusions.’

"That woman knows witchcraft. She forced us to tell her about our clan’s affairs. We couldn’t control ourselves at all.

They said they would turn Mornfell upside down to find every last one of our remaining clan members."

Nathan Moreau’s eyes held a trace of hatred, but also a hint of grim satisfaction.

Because the location of the Bishop Clan could not be described in words, those people seemed certain that the Bishop Clan members were hiding some kind of treasure.

"The Celestial’s Prayer Stone, right? They must have come for this."

Nina Jacobs had Shirley Lucas take out some disinfectant, then took a bottle of water from her own backpack and handed it to the woman.

"How do you know so much? And why are you here?"

Nathan Moreau hadn’t completely let down her guard. These people even knew about Toya.

’Have they really been to our clan’s lands? But outsiders aren’t allowed to enter.’

"A few things happened. We just came down from the cliffs yesterday," Leo Hale said.

Nina Jacobs had Leo Hale explain the events of the past few days to Nathan Moreau while she began to explore the sand pit with her Earth Element Superpower.

There were indeed Mystic Ice Cores in the sand pit.

But only a dozen or so small ones.

Adrian Shaw was already satisfied. "Every little bit helps. Each one we bring back is a treasure."

By now, Nathan Moreau understood why these people were here.

At least she was certain that they were not part of the same group that had killed Stellan Gallagher.

The special mark Nina Jacobs had left behind was something only a member of their clan would use.

"Let’s keep moving. We don’t know when those people might catch up," Nina Jacobs said.

"You’re looking for The Celestial’s Prayer Stone?"

Nathan Moreau seemed hesitant after learning their objective.

"That’s right. But don’t worry, we’ll take you back," Adrian Shaw said.

After searching this mountain, they planned to return to the Bishop Clan.

Toya had said that the "Prayer Stones" that fell that day were all gathered between these two mountains.

"If you’re looking for Prayer Stones, I know a place. There might be more there than all the Prayer Stones in the entire Bishop Clan combined," Nathan Moreau said.

"For real? You’d better not be trying to trick us."

Shirley Lucas didn’t quite believe their luck.

"Fine, don’t go. I just don’t want to be found by those people," Nathan Moreau retorted, clearly not fond of Shirley Lucas.

The Bishop Clan revered the dead. She simply couldn’t understand how this person could want to take things from a corpse.

"We’ll go. But you’ve probably already told those people about this, right? Are you trying to make us fight them for your benefit? Or are you trying to use us to get rid of them?"

Although Nina Jacobs believed she was Nathan Moreau of the Bishop Clan, she didn’t trust Nathan Moreau as a person.

Lucasta Moreau, Nathan Moreau.

It was very likely that they both harbored a natural hostility toward outsiders.
