I put out his fire

Chapter 1 Rebirth

Chapter 1 Rebirth

The Roman military camp is full of flying dust.

The black wooden boxes were tied together with ropes, cracked and worn out, looking like a big puddle of black mud crawling on the ground from a distance.Dirty grains of salt leaked from the cracks in the planks.

Soldiers just finished training, carrying wicker shields and wooden swords. Most of them were shirtless and sweaty, like sticky snakes.

Laughing and laughing, they lined up from the gate of the camp and carried away a wooden box one by one, with mostly joyful expressions on their faces.

The wooden box contained table salt.In Rome, soldiers were paid partly by salt.

Rhodes dragged the wooden box into the tent.Sweat condensed into a diamond-like bead on the tip of his chin, and flowed down the contours of his neck, soaking the thick linen black collar.

It was very dark in the tent, and the oppressive air was like wax oil that could not flow, tightly sealing his mouth and nose.

Rhodes pulled out his sword swiftly, and used the tip of the sword to open the curtain not far away.

The dazzling sunlight swept in like flames, and two sparks of light suddenly grew in his black eyes.

He retracted the sword with a whoosh, and lifted the lid of the box with his feet.

The table salt in the box is very rough, mixed with some dark brown gravel. The salt grains showed a strange blue-green color, as if contaminated with some unknown toxin.

Rhode's expression changed slightly, but the corners of his mouth were still stubbornly tight. He picked up a grain of salt and sniffed it close to the tip of his nose.

This is the fishy and salty smell of the ocean.

He is quite familiar with this smell, even to the point of deep bone marrow.

The curtain was lifted, and a small soldier poked his head in.He has greasy blond hair, a pair of small triangular eyes that are very philistine, and shine out between the greasy forehead locks.

"This month's military pay is moldy, it looks like grains of poisoned sand!" He pointed to the box and joked.

"It's not moldy, Virgil." Rhodes twisted the salt grains, "but it's definitely not official official salt."

Virgil raised his eyebrows and took out a gold coin from his pocket, "Follow it."

He tossed the gold coin over.

The gold coin rolled a few times in the air and was caught by Rhodes.

"There is a serious problem with the military pay, and this is the compensation each of us gets." Virgil said, with a hint of shrewdness in his eyes, "To put it bluntly...it is our hush money. This matter must not be disclosed to the outside world!"

Rhodes thought for a while, and suddenly clenched the grain of salt in his hand. His eyes became as sharp as the eyes of an eagle, and his whole body became sharper, in a posture ready to go.

He lowered his voice and said, "The army uses private salt as their salary."

Virgil let out a snort from his nostrils, with a look of resentment: "Huh! Those old generals looked down on the merchants, but they became the most speculative class among the merchants!"

After he finished complaining, his face looked like a magic trick, and he changed back to that commonplace person again.

He put the gold coin on his teeth and bit it hard twice, "But... this gold coin is worth half a year's military pay, enough to make me shut up."

With a stooped and thin body, he put down the curtain with a proud expression on his face, and disappeared like a nimble monkey.

The curtain was not closed tightly, leaving a very thin and easily broken gap.

Rhodes closed the wooden box and spread his palms.

A ray of sunlight slipped in from between the curtains and hit the gold coins.

The bust of the emperor was engraved on the surface of the gold coin, shining brightly, and it hurt his eyes together with the sunlight.

A painful memory floods back...

In the dark wooden house, Rhodes curled up weakly at the head of the bed.

His face was pale, cold sweat was flowing all over his body, and his consciousness was scattered like a puddle of mud.The effect of the poison|drug made him suffer from cramps in his stomach. He was breathing heavily and rapidly, as if he was about to drown.

He covered his heart, revealing a golden ring between his fingers that was completely inconsistent with his poor and humble status.

"Are you uncomfortable? Rhodes." The voice came from the door, "Because you have sacrificed your life for me, I chose the fastest way to die for you."

Rhodes opened his eyes with difficulty.

In the field of vision surrounded by flowers, there is a toga robe with red stripes on a white background, faintly shining like a ghost. This is the signature dress of the elders.

"Anthony..." Rhode stared at him, and squeezed out his name with a dry voice, "Why did you kill me..."

The elder walked to the bed and laughed twice, "Because your bounty is about to catch up with the previous emperor, Rhodes. Your life is worth a boatload of expensive silk."

Rhodes clutched the clothes on his chest tightly, and the golden ring between his fingers gleamed.

"Oh, let me see how pure gold this is." Anthony pretended to marvel, "He died in your hands, yet you still enjoy his relics with peace of mind..."

Rhodes breathed heavily, and a trace of sadness flashed in his eyes.

The elder slowly turned the golden ring between his fingers, bent over and said, "I just hired you to kill him, but I didn't let you take his things without authorization..."

Rhode's heart trembled, and his eyes turned black as if they were flooded with ink.His time is near.

The senator took off the gold ring and put it on his hand.

The golden light of the ring floated in the darkness like pearls, and Rhodes lost consciousness...

Memories end in a sense of suffocation.

Rhodes' lips were tightly pursed, and the pain flickered in his eyes like a wild will-o'-the-wisp, and immediately disappeared.

He held the gold coin tightly and walked out of the tent silently.

At this time, there was no one outside.

The torches were not extinguished. The flames flickered, looking like dancing pieces of gold in the dark.Everything was so silent, so silent that even the dancing flames became a burden.

Rhodes took off the torch, walked to the fire basin, and glanced in coldly.

On the surface of the water, he has black hair and black pupils, his long hair hangs down to his shoulder blades, and his straight nose touches his cheeks. The lines of his face are very deep, and his muscles are long and slender. It has the classical beauty of the Greek era, but it implies a hint of danger.Undoubtedly, his appearance is extremely handsome; and this handsomeness is expressed in a form of menace.

Time went back 16 years and he was 20 years old, young and healthy, but with nothing.

The author has something to say:

It is still a niche background in ancient Rome, with weak attack and strong acceptance, it can be regarded as a semi-developed essay.
